Should I Buy A Second-hand PV System?

This is a good question. The short answer is that you can, but it has its pros and its cons. I have had conversations where persons tell me it must be ok because if we can buy second hand cars then a PV system [with no moving parts] shouldn't be that much of a problem. Well, a car may last you 10 years without major need for overhaul ... your PV system is expected to be 80% functional after 20 years (or 25 in some cases), so its a bit more involved than that. You have to think of warranties, inverter updates, cabling wear and tear, support structure wear and tear, and more. We would also suggest you make sure you get a certified/ qualified/ experienced solar PV electrician to look at the system thoroughly BEFORE you make a decision to purchase. Here's an article from our friends at PV Magazine and they delve into a bit more detail. More about re-using PV systems here ...

Give it a read and contact us when you're through. If you are serious about renewables and energy security, then we want to hear from you.
